Instructional Design Activity: Course Design
Your IDA was evaluated by: Dr. Law Overall Instructor Rating: Satisfactory Ratings explanation:
Instructor's Overall Feedback: Hi Beth: I think there is plenty here that works well but some opportunities to make it clearer regarding the learning outcomes. 1. Your Course Goal statement: LWBAT generate a description of School Nutrition Director Certification in the state of Georgia. This seems overly broad and does not indicate one of you main concerns which was that individuals did not realize the implications of the certification requirement for their career in School Nutrition. I would add something to the goal statement that indicated the key components that should be contained in the description: LWBAT generate a description of School Nutrition Director Certification in the state of Georgia that contains the following components: (1) certification purpose; (2) requirements; and (3) implications for School Nutrition employees. 2. Your Unit 2 objective appears to be at a much lower-level of learning outcome compared to the other units: LWBAT name the term and generate a description of the term that identifies a certified individual working in K-12 education. I'm not sure how the word "term" is being used here. It seems to me that you may be trying to get at "generate a description of the job requirements of a certified individual working in K-12 education". 3. Unit 3 level objective could be more precise LWBAT generate a description of the knowledge and skills to be learned en route to earning School Nutrition Director Certification. The part about "to be learned en route" would be better put as "knowledge and skills required to successfully complete the SNDC test". Lesson 2 Objective is a compound objective and needs to be simplified: LWBAT identify the verbiage in the BOE Rule: Statewide School Nutrition Program that communicate a requirement of certification and generate a description of the School Nutrition Program personnel who must meet this certification requirement. How about, "LWBAT state the certification requirements of the BOE Rule: Statewide School Nutrition Program, including a description of the School Nutrition Program personnel who must meet this certification requirement." Since you plan to use this as the foundation for your team project, I suggest you revise this IDA based on my feedback and resubmit it. If some of the feedback I provided does not make sense, perhaps I don't understand the context well enough, then let me know and we can work through it. Dr. Law
This activity builds on the needs assessment IDA. This IDA is divided into two parts. First, you will design a rough outline of a course. In this context, "course" is defined as an instructional entity, which has both a recognizable start and finish point, and has an organized set of content. It is the most general instructional solution to a problem identified in needs assessment. Second, you will choose one of the units from your course design and design a rough outline of that unit (of course, in the 'real world', you would do this for all of your units). The activity is designed to give you hands-on practice with course- and unit-level task analysis. |
