Overall Instructor Rating: Satisfactory
Ratings explanation:
- Exemplary - A model answer in almost every way (this is given out very rarely).
- Satisfactory - Very well done; you've met the expectations of the assignment. There are some minor problems, so read my feedback well.
- Marginal Pass - You pass, but there are lots of issues to consider. Read my feedback very carefully and be sure you understand the points/issues I raise.
- Not satisfactory, redo and resubmit - The assignment was not completed appropriately. I am concerned that you do not understand the process well enough yet. To get credit for the assignment, you need to redo it, most probably on another topic. Read and consider my feedback very carefully before redoing.
Instructor's Overall Feedback:
Hi Ashley:
Your formative evaluation is well designed and should provide you with the necessary data at each point to make instructional design decisions on how to improve the materials (if necessary). One area that could be improved upon is in describing the type of questions that you would ask the experts to complete.
Dr. Law
The objective of this activity is to plan for the formative evaluation of your instruction. As stated by Dick, Carey, and Carey (2001): "Formative evaluation is the process designers use to obtain data that can be used to revise their instruction to make it more efficient and effective. The emphasis in formative evlauation is on the collection and analysis of data and the revision of the instruction" (p. 284-285).
Using the lesson you have described in the IDA on lesson design, complete the Formative Evaluation Planning Worksheet. Using the table below, describe:
- Who will do the ongoing evaluation;
- What is being evaluated;
- When the evaluation should occur; and
- How the evaluation will be conducted (i.e. tools you will use)
Be sure to refer to Dick, Carey, and Carey Chapter 10 for specific information that can be gathered from experts (e.g. subject-matter, learning, and learner) and learners in different formative evaluation situations (e.g. one-to-one, small-group, and field trials).

Write the instructional objectives of your lesson here (it can be more than one):
Your final response:
Given a sample of websites, the students will be able to classify websites by labeling each website as either objective or not objective based on the author and the information presented.

I will have the experts review the lesson on three levels:
<p>
1. content; 2. technical accuracy; 3. quality of instruction.

The content review will help ensure that no mistakes were made in the information provided to the learners.

The SME’s will check the content to make sure that correct information is given to the students about online databases, using a search engine, and categorizing websites. They will also check the technical accuracy of the lesson by checking the web links, checking that the Wink software works correctly, and checking that directions are clear. Finally, the SME’s will review that quality of the instruction and make sure that the students will the learn the skills effectively and efficiently.

Your final response:
The Sprayberry media specialist will be able to complete the review within two weeks during the school day. The Sprayberry teacher and another Cobb County media specialist will complete the review in their own time frame.

Learners: one-to-one
Your final response:
Three selected students will review the instruction based on:
1. Clarity of Instruction
2. Impact on the Learner
3. Feasibility
The students will determine if the vocabulary and message complexity is appropriate, if the introduction, body, and conclusion are clear, and if the transitions between material types are smooth. They will also help with determining if the lesson is the appropriate difficulty. Finally, the one-on-one evaluation will determine if the lesson is the appropriate length of time, if it takes place in an environment that promotes learning, and if all of the equipment works correctly.

Your final response:
The one-on-one evaluation will take place after the expert evaluation but before the final lesson is developed. The lesson will still be in early stages of development so that obvious errors and changes can be easily made.

Your final response:
The students will be observed in order to collect information about procedural issues such as boredom, confusion, or anxiety. The students will also be observed to determine if the environment is comfortable and adequately equipped. During the lesson the students will write down things that might be confusing such as vocabulary, examples, and illustrations. To determine the impact that the lesson has on the students, an interview will be conducted with questions that address the student’s motivation, the relevance of the information, and the accessibility of the lesson. The student’s will also have a chance to make comments and suggestions.

Learners: small-group
Your final response:
First, the small-group evaluation will be used to see if the changes made during the one-on-one evaluation were effective. Also, this stage of the evaluation will test if the lesson can be completed without interaction with the instructor. It will be important to see that instructor does not have to teach the entry behaviors and knowledge that students were thought to come into the lesson with.

Your final response:
This stage of evaluation will occur after lesson has been further developed. All changes should have been made from the one-on-one evaluation.

Your final response:
The students in the small-group evaluation will be given pretests and posttests to collect quantitative data. Also, the students will be given an attitude questionnaire to determine their reactions to the instruction. The reactions might include such information as material relevance, student interest levels, and perceived assessment effectiveness. Finally, the students will be interviewed and given a chance to ask questions.

Learners: field trial
Your final response:
First, the field trial will be used to see if the changes made during the small-group evaluation were effective. Also, the field trial will help to determine if the lesson will be effective in the context that it will occur in. At this stage, the Sprayberry media specialist that is not involved in the lesson design will facilitate the lesson.

Your final response:
Information will be gathered on learner achievement and attitude. One way this will be done is through a pretest and posttest. The test will focus more on the entry behaviors and the skills that are taught in the lesson. A questionnaire will also be given that will help to find interferences that might hinder the instruction. Finally, a few random student interviews will be conducted, as well as an instructor interview. The entire field trial will also be observed.
