Overall Instructor Rating: Exemplary
Ratings explanation:
- Exemplary - A model answer in almost every way (this is given out very rarely).
- Satisfactory - Very well done; you've met the expectations of the assignment. There are some minor problems, so read my feedback well.
- Marginal Pass - You pass, but there are lots of issues to consider. Read my feedback very carefully and be sure you understand the points/issues I raise.
- Not satisfactory, redo and resubmit - The assignment was not completed appropriately. I am concerned that you do not understand the process well enough yet. To get credit for the assignment, you need to redo it, most probably on another topic. Read and consider my feedback very carefully before redoing.
Instructor's Overall Feedback:
This is a fantastic IDA! Bravo! At every stage it is clear that you "get it." With thoughtful detail in the various stages, you have moved this activity beyond being an exercise and into the realm of meaningful planning for instruction. I especially appreciated seeing your full engagement with the timing of the expert review process as well as the other stages. The details of what experts you are interested in, etc., are great. And the way one process builds upon another is explained thoroughly.
The ONLY major point you overlooked, that I've noticed, is that you forgot to plan to assess learning of the content in your field trial. In other words, though you said you would measure "performance, achievement, and time and space alloted," you didn't name any assessment tools (such as a rubric) that would measure learning of the content; and you didn't name other tools (such as a user experience survey) either for this phase.
Though this is a major oversight, as I said it is the only one and the rest of the IDA is so terrific that I can't resist giving you an "exemplary" rating.
Once again, a superb IDA!
Greg
The objective of this activity is to plan for the formative evaluation of your instruction. As stated by Dick, Carey, and Carey (2001): "Formative evaluation is the process designers use to obtain data that can be used to revise their instruction to make it more efficient and effective. The emphasis in formative evlauation is on the collection and analysis of data and the revision of the instruction" (p. 284-285).
Using the lesson you have described in the IDA on lesson design, complete the Formative Evaluation Planning Worksheet. Using the table below, describe:
- Who will do the ongoing evaluation;
- What is being evaluated;
- When the evaluation should occur; and
- How the evaluation will be conducted (i.e. tools you will use)
Be sure to refer to Dick, Carey, and Carey Chapter 10 for specific information that can be gathered from experts (e.g. subject-matter, learning, and learner) and learners in different formative evaluation situations (e.g. one-to-one, small-group, and field trials).

Write the instructional objectives of your lesson here (it can be more than one):
Your final response:
Given the United Streaming website resources, teachers and staff will be able to demonstrate searching and finding relevant information for their instruction and/or planning using the search bar, subject search, advanced search tool, and Boolean terms.

I will have the experts review the lesson on three levels:
<p>
1. content; 2. technical accuracy; 3. quality of instruction.

The content review will help ensure that no mistakes were made in the information provided to the learners.

Your final response:
Subject-matter: I will contact an instructor with ETTC in Dalton who is familiar with resources such as United Streaming to check the accuracy of the content in my lesson.
Learning: I will ask a Media Specialist and/or Technology Specialist to evaluate my lesson content as well as instructional methods. Media Specialists and Technology Specialists normally work with teachers in collaborating with them as well as teaching them techniques. These individuals normally interact with the learners and would assist in knowing what type of learning approaches and content presentation would work best.
Learner: I will contact Staff (Professional) Development educators to evaluate the lesson’s methods, materials, and content with the learner (teachers and staff) in mind.

Your final response:
Subject-matter Expert: The ETTC instructor will evaluate the lesson when the lesson is developed enough to show her what it contains. I feel it is important to get this evaluation first and very early.
Learning Expert: The Media Specialist/Technology Specialist will evaluate the lesson after the Subject matter expert does and those revisions have been made.
Learner Expert: The Staff/Professional Development educators’ evaluations will follow the Media/Tech Specialists’ evaluation and after those revisions have been made.
By the end of this Expert evaluation, up to 3 sets of revisions will have been made. Ideally if all these revisions could take place in 1 week, then that would be the best time frame in order to present the lesson in a timely manner.

Your final response:
Subject-matter Expert, Learning Expert, and Learner Expert: Ideally all 3 types of evaluations would occur in the school media center. The lessons complete with hand-outs and the logistics of the media lab would be evaluated. These experts would fill out an evaluation sheet that will be developed objectively, as well as provide their subjective comments. I would also speak with them in order for them to convey their thoughts.

Your final response:
I would request that a few individual teachers and staff who desire to learn more about United Streaming and evaluate my lesson participate in this evaluation. I would try to get teachers from different areas of study/instruction in order to get a feel for the lesson from different viewpoints. They would be evaluating the overall lesson including the effectiveness of the methods, pertinence of the content, and missing elements. They would check for appropriateness of content and level as well. This evaluation would tell me how the instruction is perceived.

This one to one evaluation will occur after the expert evaluations have been completed and revisions have been made. It would occur in the classroom at their computers if possible or in the Media Center lab if needed.

Your final response:
I’ll introduce and go through the lesson with individual teachers in their classrooms at their computers or in the media center lab if they choose that location. I will be there to assist as needed. I will ask them to fill out an evaluation and comments. I’ll also interview them.

| Learners: small-group |
Your final response:
A small group of 3-5 teachers in the Media Center lab will go through the lesson without my assistance to see how the lesson stands on its own. The teachers will be evaluating the lesson content and methods. This will reveal if changes made from the one-on-one evaluations were effective and identify additional problems.

This evaluation will occur after the one-on-one evaluations and should be soon after. This should only take 1 class period.

Materials (hand-outs) will be distributed to them, and they will follow the instructions on their own. I will interview them afterwards about the process, materials, and effectiveness of the lessons. This data collected will be related to students' learning.

| Learners: field trial |
Your final response:
This evaluation will be conducted by a larger group of grade level or content teachers. They will determine if changes made after the small group evaluation are effective and if the instruction can stand alone. They will look at the areas of performance, achievement, and time and space allotted.

This evaluation will occur after the small-group evaluation. It will take each participant 1-2 class periods to complete. I would ask that they complete the lesson within 7-9 school days, at their discretion.

Your final response:
Although a large group is used, I will allow flexibility over 7-9 days for teachers to use either their planning time to complete the evaluation or to do it at home. I will bring the group together, with someone else leading the lesson, to introduce it, do a simple demonstration, and distribute the hand-outs for individual practice. They could use the Media Center lab, their classroom computers, or do the lesson at home. It would be their choice. It is preferred that they do the perusing at home, because streaming video is overloading to the school server and is frowned upon by the system.
