Overall Instructor Rating: Satisfactory
Ratings explanation:
- Exemplary - A model answer in almost every way (this is given out very rarely).
- Satisfactory - Very well done; you've met the expectations of the assignment. There are some minor problems, so read my feedback well.
- Marginal Pass - You pass, but there are lots of issues to consider. Read my feedback very carefully and be sure you understand the points/issues I raise.
- Not satisfactory, redo and resubmit - The assignment was not completed appropriately. I am concerned that you do not understand the process well enough yet. To get credit for the assignment, you need to redo it, most probably on another topic. Read and consider my feedback very carefully before redoing.
Instructor's Overall Feedback:
Excellent IDA! You haven't put in a huge amount of detail, but you show that you understand this process very well. I do especially like the details given here and there, such as the statement "they will evaluate changes made following the one-on-one instruction" in the small group phase, that show you get the point of what is going on here. Also, you've rightly included in that phase the need to know whether learners can actually use the instruction without interacting with the instructor.
Just one major concern about your How portion in the last two sections: You mentioned assessments but did not specify what they are. A little more specifics about what these are and what kind of output they create are needed here. For example, are they quizzes? Or rubrics? etc. Apart from the interviews, what tools will you use to assess learning?
Finally, although the IDA fills in the Who portions for you, it will help you to flesh out in your team evaluation plan just who the experts would be, or what kind of expertise you need, to review this instruction.
Other than that, excellent job!
Greg
The objective of this activity is to plan for the formative evaluation of your instruction. As stated by Dick, Carey, and Carey (2001): "Formative evaluation is the process designers use to obtain data that can be used to revise their instruction to make it more efficient and effective. The emphasis in formative evlauation is on the collection and analysis of data and the revision of the instruction" (p. 284-285).
Using the lesson you have described in the IDA on lesson design, complete the Formative Evaluation Planning Worksheet. Using the table below, describe:
- Who will do the ongoing evaluation;
- What is being evaluated;
- When the evaluation should occur; and
- How the evaluation will be conducted (i.e. tools you will use)
Be sure to refer to Dick, Carey, and Carey Chapter 10 for specific information that can be gathered from experts (e.g. subject-matter, learning, and learner) and learners in different formative evaluation situations (e.g. one-to-one, small-group, and field trials).

Write the instructional objectives of your lesson here (it can be more than one):
Your final response:
Given a competency assessment, SWBAT identify three personal strengths.

HTML formatting reminder: You can embed HTML tags directly in your responses. This will be help your buddies and the instructor view your information in a more readable fashion. For example, if you want a paragraph break somewhere, just enter <p>:
I will have the experts review the lesson on three levels:
<p>
1. content; 2. technical accuracy; 3. quality of instruction.

The content review will help ensure that no mistakes were made in the information provided to the learners.

Three experts will review the material prior to instruction as to the accuracy of the instruction. The expert reviews will ensure that no mistakes were made in the information provided. Experts will ensure that the instruction that is provided is the most efficient and effective instruction possible.

Your final response:
The expert reviews will be conducted through a personal interview noting any difficulties or concerns with instruction. This will be done by free form notes taken by the designer.

Learners: one-to-one
Your final response:
Three sample learners representing the target population will be selected to go through the instruction to make certain that learners actually learn what is intended. They will evaluate the clarity of directions and any other potential problems that may exist. These three learners will chosen based upon their learning abilities: low, average, high.

Your final response:
The one-on-one sessions will occur after the expert review and prior to actually presenting the information to the target group. Learners will provide clarity, impact, and feasibility of the instruction.

Your final response:
The designer will sit through instruction with each individual learner noting areas of confusion or other concerns by the learner. This will be done through free form notes by the designer with each learner. The designer will conduct personal interviews with each learner after going through instruction clarifying and answering any questions the learner may have.

Learners: small-group
Your final response:
A group of six learners representing the target group will be selected for the small-group session. Small group learners will be evalauting "learnability" of the instruction. They will evaluate changes made following the one-on-one evaluations. They will also identify any remaining learning problems that learners may have with confusion, etc. Designer will take free form notes from each learner.

Assessments and personal interviews will be used to determine actual "learnability" after instruction. Attitude questionaires will also be administered to determine their attitudes towards the instruction. Learners in this group will determine whether learners can actually use the instruction without interacting with the instructor.

Learners: field trial
Your final response:
A group of thirty learners will be used in the field trial. Again, learners will evaluate the "learnability" of the instruction. The field trial will determine whether the changes made after the small-group stage were effective. The field trial will also determine whether the instruction can be used in the context for which it was intended. These learners will locate and eliminate any remaining problems in the instruction. The learners in the field trial will be the actual learners who will be using the instruction once it is completed.
