Overall Instructor Rating: Satisfactory
Ratings explanation:
- Exemplary - A model answer in almost every way (this is given out very rarely).
- Satisfactory - Very well done; you've met the expectations of the assignment. There are some minor problems, so read my feedback well.
- Marginal Pass - You pass, but there are lots of issues to consider. Read my feedback very carefully and be sure you understand the points/issues I raise.
- Not satisfactory, redo and resubmit - The assignment was not completed appropriately. I am concerned that you do not understand the process well enough yet. To get credit for the assignment, you need to redo it, most probably on another topic. Read and consider my feedback very carefully before redoing.
Instructor's Overall Feedback:
You did an good job here. You seem to understand the process very well.
The objective of this activity is to plan for the formative evaluation of your instruction. As stated by Dick, Carey, and Carey (2001): "Formative evaluation is the process designers use to obtain data that can be used to revise their instruction to make it more efficient and effective. The emphasis in formative evlauation is on the collection and analysis of data and the revision of the instruction" (p. 284-285).
Using the lesson you have described in the IDA on lesson design, complete the Formative Evaluation Planning Worksheet. Using the table below, describe:
- Who will do the ongoing evaluation;
- What is being evaluated;
- When the evaluation should occur; and
- How the evaluation will be conducted (i.e. tools you will use)
Be sure to refer to Dick, Carey, and Carey Chapter 10 for specific information that can be gathered from experts (e.g. subject-matter, learning, and learner) and learners in different formative evaluation situations (e.g. one-to-one, small-group, and field trials).

Write the instructional objectives of your lesson here (it can be more than one):
Your final response:
Given the need to prepare healthy, great tasting meals in a short period of time, the LWBAT prepare a healthy meal from the 30 Minute Meal Cookbook in the given time frame.
The instructor's feedback to this step:
This has all the elements of a well written objective. Nice Job.

Your final response:
I will have the experts review the lesson on three levels:
1. content; 2. technical accuracy; 3. quality of instruction.
The content review will help to ensure that the measurements, ingredients and time given to cook the meal are accurate and produce healthy, great tasting meals. The technical accuracy review will provide information regarding any errors in the cooking directions, and photo provided with each meal. The quality of instruction review will inform us if the recipe and all instructions are as clear, precise and accurate as posible so that the recipe is easy to follow and carry out.
|
Your final response:
The experts will be given 2 months to complete the reviews in order to have them completed by the one-on-one evaluation from the learners.
|
Your final response:
The review will be conducted using checklists, notations or observations, interviews.
The checklist will serve as a rubric for the experts to follow. The notations/observations will be used so that experts can note any immediate feedback regarding thoughts, suggestions, feasibility, likes/dislikes, etc. about each recipe. The interview will be conducted at the conclusion of the expert review to provide clarity.
|
The instructor's feedback to this step:
Good, this is well done. |
| Learners: one-to-one |
Your final response:
Given the recipe, cooking directions, photos, time frame and all materials needed to cook the meal, three sample learners will be selected to evaluate the learnability and practicality of each recipe. The learners will be selected based on their cooking abilities: novice, average, and experienced.
|
Your final response:
The one-on-one sessions will take place following expert reviews of initial recipes, with any modifications noted and/or made based on the expert reviews.
|
Your final response:
The designer will be be in the kitchen with the learner, making note of any confusion with cooking instructions, time frame to complete each meal, and making sure to answer and take note of any questions from the learner.
An interview will be conducted with the learner in an effort to get feedback and to clarify any thoughts about the recipe, cooking instructions, taste of the meal, preparation time, etc.
|
The instructor's feedback to this step:
Good, this is well done. |
| Learners: small-group |
Your final response:
A small group of 5-6 will be selected in this round to once again access the learnability and practicality of the instruction. The makeup of this group will closely resemble the one-to-one group of learners, since the target audience will also have varying cooking abilities.
|
Your final response:
The small group session will take place after a prototype of the recipes are created following modifications based on the one-to-one stage.
|
Your final response:
A variety of methods will be used to gather information, such as interviews, learner notes, checklists, clocks, food tasting, etc.
|
The instructor's feedback to this step:
Good, this is well done. |
| Learners: field trial |
Your final response:
The learners in the field test will also continue to evaluate the learnability and practicality of the instruction. The learners in this field test are the actual learners who will be using these recipes/instruction once the cookbook is completed.
|
Your final response:
The field test will take place once the recipes in the cookbook have gone through final modifications and is complete.
|
Your final response:
The evaluation will take place in the actual setting where instruction will take place (kitchen). Assessments will be given through letters and interviews from some of the home cooks using the recipes.
