Overall Instructor Rating: Exemplary
Ratings explanation:
- Exemplary - A model answer in almost every way (this is given out very rarely).
- Satisfactory - Very well done; you've met the expectations of the assignment. There are some minor problems, so read my feedback well.
- Marginal Pass - You pass, but there are lots of issues to consider. Read my feedback very carefully and be sure you understand the points/issues I raise.
- Not satisfactory, redo and resubmit - The assignment was not completed appropriately. I am concerned that you do not understand the process well enough yet. To get credit for the assignment, you need to redo it, most probably on another topic. Read and consider my feedback very carefully before redoing.
Instructor's Overall Feedback:
Impressive! Overall, this is an exemplary.
Just as a general note to 6170 students that in your IDA’s, keep in mind that the Dick and Carey model asks us to make revisions at each step in the formative evaluation process, before continuing to the next step. (We realize that you may not do this for your team project because of the limitations of the assignment.)
The objective of this activity is to plan for the formative evaluation of your instruction. As stated by Dick, Carey, and Carey (2001): "Formative evaluation is the process designers use to obtain data that can be used to revise their instruction to make it more efficient and effective. The emphasis in formative evlauation is on the collection and analysis of data and the revision of the instruction" (p. 284-285).
Using the lesson you have described in the IDA on lesson design, complete the Formative Evaluation Planning Worksheet. Using the table below, describe:
- Who will do the ongoing evaluation;
- What is being evaluated;
- When the evaluation should occur; and
- How the evaluation will be conducted (i.e. tools you will use)
Be sure to refer to Dick, Carey, and Carey Chapter 10 for specific information that can be gathered from experts (e.g. subject-matter, learning, and learner) and learners in different formative evaluation situations (e.g. one-to-one, small-group, and field trials).
Formative Evaluation Planning Worksheet
Write the instructional objectives of your lesson here (it can be more than one):
Your final response:
Title: PPT Design
Objective: Teachers will be able to generate PPT slides including material from clip art, digital camera, text, and web links. This lesson will be conducted in a PC lab setting.
The instructor's feedback to this step:
This is good. Two make it one objective statement, you might combine it to say something like: "The TWBAT generate multimedia PPT slides on a PC, given a variety of clip art, digital camera access, text, and web links."
Write your objective using the correct form. Click here for advice on writing objectives.
HTML formatting reminder: You can embed HTML tags directly in your responses. This will be help your buddies and the instructor view your information in a more readable fashion. For example, if you want a paragraph break somewhere, just enter <p>:
I will have the experts review the lesson on three levels:
<p>
1. content; 2. technical accuracy; 3. quality of instruction.
<p>
The content review will help ensure that no mistakes were made in the information provided to the learners.

| Experts (subject-matter, learning, learner) |
Your final response:
Subject Matter: I will have instructors familiar with the PowerPoint program review my lesson for technical accuracy and some content.
Learning Expert: I will contact experts in ID and individuals who teach staff development to review the lesson for quality of instruction.
Learner Expert: I will contact a current inservice educator to review this material for content. I will also try to find and expert on how teachers learn best, porbably someone from teh university who has conducted research on this topic.
|
Your final response:
Subject Matter: I will have them review the material as I am in the begining stages of development. I will have the basic concepts complete, but not the "bells and whistles." This will be complete before the 1v1 evaluation.
Learning: I will have these experts review the material after the subject matter instructors. Learner: This will be the final review. We will try to conduct this evaluation towards the end of initial development of the instruction so that most of the materials will be available. This whole process is dependent on the experts availability so we will schedule in advance, but it should take about 1 week to accomplish the reviews.
|
Your final response:
All of the following evaluations will be accomplished in the lab setting were the material is to be taught. All reviewers will have a complete set of instructional materials as well as copies of instructor handouts, PPT slide and notes. All expert evaluations will be done individually with the instructional designer(s) to avoid evaluation overlap. After working through the lesson, a checklist of components will be used to evaluate materials as well as a five point likert scale evaluation. These quantitative evaluations will also be available online in a poll format so that they can be used later in the formative evaluation process. The final component will be a written review and interview to allow for more qualitatvie assessment of the instructional materials. Subject Matter: I will provide them with a print of the lesson, a copy of all PPT slides and materials and together we will work through the lesson in a lab setting. Learning: We will also work through the lesson in the lab setting and they will have copies of all materials. Learner: We will also walk through lesson similar to a one v. one format.

The instructor's feedback to this step:
This is well though-out! |
| Learners: one-to-one |
Your final response:
I will contact several in-service educators. I plan to complete 5 evaluations to include different levels of experience, gradelevel, advanced degrees, subjects taught. We will be evaluating the lessons.
|
Your final response:
We will go into the lab one-to one and work through the lessons. This will happen after the experts have reviewed the material and potential problems have already been addressed. This process should take about two weeks, based on availability of teachers
|
Your final response:
We will go through the lesson as it was designed and the instructor will be available for troubleshooting. Following the lesson similar checklists and evaluations used earlier will be adjusted for 1 v. 1 evaluation. Similar questions to the ones used earlier will be used some some comparative quantitative data can be generated. We will also conduct a post lesson interview and written evaluation for qualitative issues. We will also review the in-course assessments to see if the lesson objective was mastered.
|
The instructor's feedback to this step:
Great. |
| Learners: small-group |
Your final response:
I will bring together a small group of teachers to go through material with out intervention from the designers.
|
Your final response:
This evaluation will be conducted during the regular schedule of teaching. (Not summer or pre/post planning) Our instruction/ lesson should take place during a planning session. The actual lesson should be less than one planning period in length, but the evaluation of the data collected will take one week. Not only will be able to evaluate the course, but the actual school context, not just the lab context, for which this instruction has been designed.
|
Your final response:
We will evaluate through observation during the lesson as well as employing our checklists and evaluations. We will also conduct follow up interviews and written evaluations. One of the checklist used here will involve monitoring questions and whether they relate to technology or to lesson instruction. The in-course assessments will also be evaluated to determine if the objective was mastered.
|
The instructor's feedback to this step:
Very good. |
| Learners: field trial |
Your final response:
This will be a final evaluation of the lesson and its instructional design. We will bring together a group of 25 inservice teachers (target audience). These individuals will be randomly chosen from the teaching staff and they will complete the lesson in a lab setting.
|
Your final response:
This will also be completed during the school year to evaluate lesson and lesson context. This step should also take a week to evaluate the data collected.
|
Your final response:
After completing that course, written evaluations and checklists will be completed as well as interviews and written evals. Classroom observations will be conducted during the lesson. We will also use checklist to monitor questions and the nature of the question. Also, lesson assessments will be evaluated for mastery of the content.
