Global Perspectives with Interactive Communications Technology: From Images to Immersion

Mondays, 1:00-4:00pm

EDIT 9990 (41-611)

Course Evaluation

This class will examine the use of Interactive Communication Technology (ICT) for bringing the world to the classroom. Last fall we looked at how our world view was being embedded in the content we deliver over the web; this fall we will examine how we can bring others' world views to our learners through the web. We will begin with a look at Global Education and we will also examine how we have approached this topic from traditional methods to the Study Abroad experience. The question is how much of the Study Abroad experience can be mediated with web-based technologies? We will try to explore this issue during the semester. The image below shows this perspective.

Plato's Allegory of the Cave serves as a useful starting point to talk about at least one goal of education and specifically, the impact of becoming a more globally oriented person.
