Michael Orey
From MikeOrey
My name is Michael Orey. I am interested in both Open Educational Resources and the role of culture within those materials. Some of the work I have done on the former has taken the form of web-based text books that I have created. Here they are:- This is a learning theory and instructional model book that I have been working on since 2001. It is called, Emerging Perspectives on Learning, Teaching, and Technology
- This book represents a convergence of Culture and Open Resources. It is a book about how technology is being used in schools around the world. It is called, The World Almanac of Educational Technology. I am working on this book with Tel Amiel and V. J. McClendon.
- I am just starting work on this book in collaboration with Michael Barbour. It is entitled, Foundations of Instructional Technology
In terms of culture, I have tended to focus my work on international or nationality issues. I am also interested in how cultural dimensions such as race, socio-economic status and gender impacts educational materials. Some of the work related to these issues includes the exchange program I run with Brazil. Also, the Multicultural Education class I teach and borrowed from the work of Tel Amiel is an important part of the work I do.

Personal
I have been doing Weight Watchers since April, 2007. As part of this program, I must control my diet and begin to exercise. My friend, Brian DiStefano, a personal trainer in Olympia, WA, suggested I start an exercise log. So, Here it is:
